Steady Flow Through Modeled Glottal Constriction

نویسنده

چکیده مقاله:

The airflow in the modeled glottal constriction was simulated by the solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for laminar flow, and the corresponding Reynolds equations for turbulent flow in generalized, nonorthogonal coordinates using a numerical method. A two-dimensional model of laryngeal flow is considered and aerodynamic properties are calculated for both laminar and turbulent steady flows. Three configurations of vocal folds, corresponding to convergent, parallel or rectangular, and divergent glottis are used to study the effects of glottal shape on the airflow. Results are reported for several types of calculations. Results are obtained for the velocity and pressure distributions, and friction coefficient and turbulent kinetic energy in the constriction. Flow separation was found to exist even at low Reynolds numbers, and the separation region grew in size with increasing Reynolds number. The glottal shape has a marked influence on the flow pattern and the pressure drop.

Numerical simulations of glottal flow

Features of glottal flow are visualized by numerical simulation, using a Navier-Stokes solver for two-dimensional, incompressible flow. Four different shapes of glottal passages are examined, for comparison to stationary model measurements. Results include pressure distributions leading to the forces acting on the vocal folds and illustrate entry pressure loss and exit recovery. Flow field imag...

Slip Effects on Steady Flow Through a Stenosed Blood Artery

The effect of slip boundary conditions on the blood flow taking blood as a Casson fluid has been studied. It is observed that axial velocity, volumetric flow rate and pressure gradient decrease along the radial distance as the slip length increases but the wall shear stress increases with increase in slip length. All the results derived are presented analytically and graphically by selecting su...

Hydraulic Flow through a Contraction: Multiple Steady States

We consider shallow water flows through a channel with a contraction by experimental and theoretical means. The horizontal channel consists of a sluice gate and an upstream channel of constant width b0 ending in a linear contraction of minimum width bc. Experimentally, we observe upstream steady and moving bores/shocks, and oblique waves in the contraction, as single and multiple steady states,...

Stability of steady flow through an axially corrugated pipe

The linear stability of steady flow in pipes with circular cross-section and sinusoidal axial variation in diameter is studied by finding global eigenmodes with axial wavelength commensurate with that of the wall corrugation, chosen to be equal to one pipe mean radius. The maximum peak-to-peak height of corrugation considered is approximately 8% of the mean diameter. At low corrugation amplitud...

Stylization of glottal-flow spectra produced b

A method is proposed to extract glottal-flow spectra from numerical simulations of vocal-fold behavior with a two-mass model including dynamic flow separation. The numerical spectrum, whose general form complies with that of signal glottal-flow models, allows stylization with three linear segments. The slope of the first segment remains relatively constant when source control parameters are var...
